Golf In Marrakech
This week's edition of the ClubstoHire.com's Travel Blog ventures back to the continent of Africa. Having previously looked at the best of the golf in the south of the continent, this week we focus on the north west of the continent. Morocco has steadily been increasing in popularity as a golf destination over the last decade. With popular destinations including Agadir and Marrakech, this week's blog will focus on the later.
Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.
Tourism in Marrakech
It’s almost impossible to walk through Marrakech for more than five minutes without finding some architectural wonder to marvel at. From the exquisite gardens to the intricately carved archways to the ornate mosques, this is a city that displays its history in its man-made environment. The Medina in particular is a sight to behold: designated a UNESCO World Heritage Centre it’s a wonderful mix of Amazigh, Arabic and Moorish architecture.
When it comes to entertainment, Marrakech blends cultures to magical effect. Jemaa El-Fnaa is the busiest square in the whole of Africa, packed with fire-eaters, Amazigh acrobats, astrologers, and a hundred other types of street entertainers. Marrakech also hosts multiple festivals such as the Dakka Marrakchia, the Marrakech Biennale, and the Popular Arts Festival.
Weather in Marakech
The weather conditions of Marrakech are important to know before travelling, especially for golf. Temperatures quite regularly hit 40°C during the months of June, July, and August. With average temperatures in the mid 30's during these months it might be wise to chose other months for a golfing holiday in Morocco. I would suggest travelling during the months of October to December as rainfall levels are relatively high from January to April.
Golf in Marrakech
Marrakech is densely populated with golf courses to the south and east of the city. There are 13 courses around the city, a few of which are highly regarded by the travelling golfer. Green fees around Marrakech range from around 350-850 MAD (around €30-€75).
The Montgomerie Marrakech
A short drive south from the airport we have The Montgomerie Marrakech. The name would suggest that it was designed by the Scot himself, however this is not the case. The course was designed by European Golf Design and is part of the Prestigia Golf Group who own another 'Motgomerie' course and two Jacklin courses around Morocco.

Assoufid Golf Club
However, if you pass on the Montgomerie and drive a little farther south along the Avenue Guemassa you will find the Assoufid Golf Club and for an extra tenner of green fee you get a whole lot more in terms of golf.
Featuring palm trees, cacti and olive trees, the 18-hole, par-72 golf course lies on a naturally undulating terrain. Assoufid Golf Club’s design vision was to create a desert-style course, integrated into the unique existing landscape while maximizing the scenic views of the Atlas Mountains to the south.
Assoufid Golf Club
Designed by former European Tour player, Niall Cameron, the golf course takes into consideration its environmental impact through minimal water consumption and the preservation of native plants and trees. The Clubhouse features a reception area, a Pro Shop, locker rooms with showers, a private Members’ Lounge and the La Colline Restaurant.
Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech
Set in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains with snowy peaks as its background, the 18-hole golf course covers 75 hectares of natural space bringing you close to nature.
Fairmont Royal Palm Golf and Country Club
The course was designed by Cabell. B. Robinson, who closely observed the environment and landscape. Taking into consideration the Wadi river that runs through the area, every tree and every hill, to create a respectful course bordered by bougainvillea and oleanders.
If you have already played golf in Marakech and are looking to play in other Moroccan destinations, ClubstoHire.com are opening their 27th global location in Agadir in October this year.
